Dates:  Beginning October 4 and Ending October 30

NOTE: SDFWA members do not need to be Members of the Shop to take this class as no work will be conducted in the power tool area of the shop.

Jerry Beaudry will bring the world of computer graphics to a level that you can understand. This class is designed for the person that has not used SketchUp before or was totally lost trying to self-teach using the program. SketchUp, like a lot of software programs, can do many operations, far more than you could ever learn in a short time. This class will focus on the Basic and intermediate steps needed so you can design a piece of furniture or cabinetry. More importantly Jerry will show you how to use the various tools and help you to be more comfortable using the program so you can experiment without fear!

Class will cover:
  1. Getting started and creating your personal work template in the program
  2.  Introducing the native tools
  3. Creating components and groups
  4. Downloading new tools, (extensions) from the internet such as "Cut List" that do not come with the free download of SketchUp and how to use them.

After five weeks, the attendee will be able to design a cabinet or bookcase using the various SketchUp tools and calculate a layout and cut list. Have a familiarity with the various operations of the basic and advanced tool sets.

Attendee must provide their own electronic device.
If one can download the current version on their machine, “SketchUp Make 2017”it will run it. The link to where to download it is: https://www.sketchup.com/download/all  Download the "SketchUp Make, 2017" version.
Most laptops and some WordPad's will run Sketch-Up but all will need a mouse, that is an absolute.

There is absolutely no reason to purchase the pro version until after you learn the "free" version.

The instructor will use the PC in windows as a reference for lectures and demonstrations.

Attention Mac USER!

Mac Users will have to work out their issues on their own as there will be no time to deal with 2 platforms and make progress in the class. BTW, there are ways to run windows on a MAC.  It's called” parallel" software.  Many MAC users know about this and cost somewhere around $100. There are 30-day free trials which would cover the class if someone wanted to try it out.

Macs do run SketchUp but the tool bars and file management are a couple of differences and Jerry is not fluent with them.  Usually there are 5 or so students per class on MACS and they do get thru it but they need to do the research on the differences.  Here is a link to a video about it:
